Eight common nouns of the Qur’ān, with the dual and the broken plural on them, and a noun made from a verb.

Quranic Arabic Corpus से गिना गया: कोई लफ़्ज़ तब पूरा मालूम माना जाता है जब उसका हर हिस्सा सिखाया जा चुका हो। ये गिनतियाँ बताती हैं कि आप किन अल्फ़ाज़ से मिल चुके हैं, यह नहीं कि आप कितना समझते हैं।

This lesson teaches eight nouns the Qur’ān uses often. They show again the two things lesson 9 taught, gender and number, now with the dual from lesson 13, and one more kind of noun: the noun made from a verb.

क़ुरआन 78:40

Many hands

इसके हिस्से
  1. بِwith, by, in
  2. أَيْدِىhand
क़ुरआन 80:15

Bi-aydī is bi and aydī, a broken plural of yad: the corpus marks it feminine plural, in the genitive.

  2. هِمthey (as the doer of a verb); them, their
क़ुरआन 83:14

Qulūbihim is qulūb, the broken plural of qalb, "heart", and him, "their". The corpus marks qulūb feminine plural.

A noun made from a verb

Qawl, "saying", is the noun of the verb qāla, "said", from lesson 6. Grammar calls such a noun the verbal noun, maṣdar, and the corpus marks it as one.

لَقَوْلُ
इसके हिस्से
  1. لَfor, to, belonging to; so that (before a verb); surely (in some sentences)
  2. قَوْلُsaying, speech
क़ुरआन 81:19

La-qawlu is la-, the lām of emphasis, and qawlu, "saying", in the nominative.

The night

ٱلَّيْلَ
इसके हिस्से
  1. ٱلَّthe
  2. يْلَnight
क़ुरआन 78:10

Al-layla is al- and layl, "night". The l of al- is joined to the l of layl and written once, doubled.

In a sentence

अभ्यास के लिए लिखा गया एक वाक्य
فِي يَدِهِ كِتَابٌ

There is a book in his hand.

This sentence was written for practice. Fī yadihi kitābun: "in his hand", fī yadihi, then "a book". The place comes first, and the thing found there after it.

  • What happens to the dual's -ni before a pronoun?
  • What is the broken plural of qalb?
  • What does grammar call qawl?

Answers: it is dropped, yadā-hu; qulūb; the verbal noun, the noun of qāla.

Next

The next lesson teaches the words that carry the religion, which the course leaves to the verses to give their meaning, and how they are built.
