When death comes
1Close the eyes, and say a good word — the angels say āmīn to what is saidচোখ বন্ধ করুন, এবং ভালো কথা বলুন — ফেরেশতারা যা বলা হয় তাতে আমীন বলেন
2Cover the body with a clean sheetপরিষ্কার চাদর দিয়ে শরীর ঢেকে দিন
3Hasten the burial — settle debts without delayদ্রুত দাফন করুন — দেরি না করে ঋণ পরিশোধ করুন
4Wash the body, shroud it, pray over it, bury itগোসল দিন, কাফন পরান, জানাযা পড়ুন, দাফন করুন
5No wailing, no striking the cheeks, no tearing of clothes. Tears are permitted; the tongue is notবিলাপ নয়, গালে চড় নয়, কাপড় ছেঁড়া নয়। চোখের পানি জায়েয; জিহ্বার নয়
Muslim · ṣaḥīḥ; Bukhārī · ṣaḥīḥ. These four are farḍ kifāyah — binding on the community until some undertake them.
Washing & shrouding
বেজোড় সংখ্যায় ধোয়া — তিন, পাঁচ বা বেশি — ডান দিক ও ওযুর অঙ্গ দিয়ে শুরু।
Washed an odd number of times — three, five, or more — beginning with the right and the places of wuḍū.
শেষ ধোয়ায় কর্পূর বা সুগন্ধি। নারীর চুল খুলে ধুয়ে তিন বেণি করা হয়।
Camphor or scent in the final washing. The hair of a woman is loosened, washed, and plaited in three.
পুরুষকে পুরুষ, নারীকে নারী গোসল দেবেন; স্বামী-স্ত্রী পরস্পরকে দিতে পারেন।
Men are washed by men, women by women; a spouse may wash a spouse.
যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রের শহীদকে গোসল দেওয়া হয় না, জানাযাও পড়া হয় না — যে কাপড়ে শহীদ হয়েছেন তাতেই দাফন।
A martyr of the battlefield is neither washed nor prayed over — he is buried in the clothes he died in.

Standing to pray
ইমাম পুরুষের মাথার কাছে, নারীর মাঝামাঝি দাঁড়ান।
The imām stands at the head of a man, at the middle of a woman.
কাতার বেজোড় সংখ্যায় — তিন, পাঁচ, সাত — এবং সোজা করা হয়।
The rows are made odd in number — three, five, seven — and straightened.
রুকূ‘ নেই, সিজদা নেই, বসা নেই। পুরো নামায দাঁড়িয়ে।
There is no bowing, no prostration, and no sitting. The whole prayer is made standing.
After the burial
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَلَاحِقُونَ أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ لَنَا وَلَكُمْ الْعَافِيَةَ
আস-সালামু ‘আলাইকুম আহলাদ-দিয়ারি মিনাল-মু’মিনীনা ওয়াল-মুসলিমীনা ওয়া ইন্না ইন শাআল্লাহু লালাহিকূনা আসআলুল্লাহা লানা ওয়া লাকুম আল-‘আফিয়াহ
পুরো বর্ণনা
আবূ বকর ইবনু আবূ শায়বাহ ও যুবায়র ইবনু হারব (রহঃ) ..... সুলায়মান ইবনু বুরায়দাহ (রহঃ) তার পিতা [বুরায়দাহ ইবনু হুসায়ব ইবনু আবদুল্লাহ (রাযিঃ)] থেকে বর্ণনা করেন। তিনি বলেন, তারা যখন কবরস্থানে যেতেন, রসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম তাদেরকে দু'আ শিখিয়ে দিতেন। অতঃপর তাদের মধ্যে কোন ব্যক্তি আবূ বাকর এর বর্ণনানুযায়ী বলত "আসসালা-মু আলা- আহলিদ দিয়া-র” (অর্থাৎ- কবরবাসীদের প্রতি আল্লাহর শান্তি বর্ষিত হোক।)। আর যুহায়র-এর বর্ণনায় আছেঃ "আসসালা-মু আলায়কুম আহলাদ দিয়া-র মিনাল মুমিনীনা ওয়াল মুসলিমীনা ওয়া ইন্না- ইনশা-আল্ল-হু লালা-হিকূনা আসআলুল্ল-হা লানা- ওয়ালাকুমুল আ-ফিয়াহু" (অর্থাৎ- হে কবরবাসী ঈমানদার মুসলিমগণ! তোমাদের প্রতি সালাম। আল্লাহ চাহে তো আমরাও তোমাদের সাথে মিলিত হব। আমি আমাদের ও তোমাদের জন্য আল্লাহর নিকট নিরাপত্তার আবেদন জানাচ্ছি।)। (ইসলামী ফাউন্ডেশন ২১২৬, ইসলামীক সেন্টার)
Sulaiman b. Buraida narrated on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to teach them when they went out to the graveyard. One of the narrators used to say this in the narration transmitted on the authority of Abu Bakr:" Peace be upon the inhabitants of the city (i. e. graveyard)." In the hadith transmitted by Zuhair (the words are):" Peace be upon you, the inhabitants of the city, among the believers, and Muslims, and God willing we shall join you. I beg of Allah peace for us and for you

As-salāmu ʿalaykum ahla’d-diyāri mina’l-mu’minīna wa’l-muslimīn, wa innā in shā’a’llāhu lalāḥiqūn
প্রবেশের সময় বলা হয়। কবর যিয়ারত করুন — তা আখিরাতের কথা মনে করিয়ে দেয়।
Said on entering. Visit the graves — they remind you of the hereafter.
কবরের উপর বসবেন না, তার উপর নির্মাণ করবেন না, তাকে নামাযের স্থান বানাবেন না।
Do not sit upon a grave, nor build over it, nor take it as a place of prayer.
তিনটি জিনিস তখনো তার কাছে পৌঁছায়: চলমান সদকা, উপকারী জ্ঞান, এবং নেক সন্তান যে তার জন্য দু‘আ করে।
Three things reach him still: an ongoing charity, knowledge benefited from, and a righteous child who supplicates for him.

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn

Four takbīrs, standing
01Raise the hands, say the takbīr, then recite al-Fātiḥahহাত তুলে তাকবীর বলুন, তারপর আল-ফাতিহা পড়ুন

02Takbīr, then the ṣalāt upon the Prophet ﷺতাকবীর, তারপর নবী ﷺ-এর উপর দরূদ
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ. اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ
আল্লাহুম্মা সাল্লি ‘আলা মুহাম্মাদিঁও ওয়া ‘আলা আলি মুহাম্মাদ, কামা সাল্লাইতা ‘আলা ইবরাহীমা ওয়া ‘আলা আলি ইবরাহীম, ইন্নাকা হামীদুম্ মাজীদ। আল্লাহুম্মা বারিক ‘আলা মুহাম্মাদিঁও ওয়া ‘আলা আলি মুহাম্মাদ, কামা বারাক্তা ‘আলা ইবরাহীমা ওয়া ‘আলা আলি ইবরাহীম, ইন্নাকা হামীদুম্ মাজীদ
Allāhumma ṣalli ‘alā Muḥammadin wa ‘alā āli Muḥammad, kamā ṣallayta ‘alā Ibrāhīma wa ‘alā āli Ibrāhīm, innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd. Allāhumma bārik ‘alā Muḥammadin wa ‘alā āli Muḥammad, kamā bārakta ‘alā Ibrāhīma wa ‘alā āli Ibrāhīm, innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd
হে আল্লাহ, মুহাম্মাদ ও মুহাম্মাদের পরিবারের ওপর রহমত বর্ষণ করুন, যেমন ইবরাহীম ও ইবরাহীমের পরিবারের ওপর বর্ষণ করেছেন — নিশ্চয়ই আপনি প্রশংসিত, মহিমান্বিত। হে আল্লাহ, মুহাম্মাদ ও মুহাম্মাদের পরিবারের ওপর বরকত দান করুন, যেমন ইবরাহীম ও ইবরাহীমের পরিবারের ওপর দান করেছেন — নিশ্চয়ই আপনি প্রশংসিত, মহিমান্বিত।
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You sent blessings upon Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm — You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bestow favour upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You bestowed favour upon Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm — You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.

03Takbīr, then supplicate for the deceasedতাকবীর, তারপর মৃতের জন্য দু‘আ
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ، وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ، وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ، وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ، وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ
Allāhumma’ghfir lahu wa’rḥamh, wa ʿāfihi wa’ʿfu ʿanh, wa akrim nuzulah, wa wassiʿ mudkhalah, wa’ghsilhu bi’l-mā’i wa’th-thalji wa’l-barad, wa naqqihi mina’l-khaṭāyā kamā yunaqqa’th-thawbu’l-abyaḍu mina’d-danas
আল্লাহুম্মাগফির লাহু ওয়ারহামহ, ওয়া আফিহি ওয়া'ফু আনহ, ওয়া আকরিম নুযুলাহ, ওয়া ওয়াসসি' মুদখালাহ, ওয়াগসিলহু বিল মাই ওয়াছ ছালজি ওয়াল বারাদ, ওয়া নাক্কিহি মিনাল খাতায়া কামা ইউনাক্কাছ ছাওবুল আবইয়াদু মিনাদ দানাস
হে আল্লাহ, তাকে ক্ষমা করুন, দয়া করুন, মাফ করুন, তার আগমন সম্মানিত করুন, তার প্রবেশস্থল প্রশস্ত করুন, এবং সাদা কাপড় যেমন ময়লা থেকে পরিষ্কার হয় তেমনি তাকে গুনাহ থেকে পরিষ্কার করুন। নারীর জন্য লাহু-র বদলে লাহা; একাধিক হলে লাহুম।
O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, pardon him, honour his arrival, widen his entry, and cleanse him of his sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. For a woman, lahā in place of lahu; for more than one, lahum.
Muslim · ṣaḥīḥ. This is the heart of the prayer — the whole standing is for this supplication.
04Takbīr, a short pause, then the salāmতাকবীর, সামান্য বিরতি, তারপর সালাম
السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ
As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatu’llāh
আসসালামু আলাইকুম ওয়া রাহমাতুল্লাহ
ডানে, এবং বামে ফেরানো হয়। নামায সম্পূর্ণ।
Turned to the right, and to the left. The prayer is complete.
05For a child who has not reached maturityবালেগ হয়নি এমন শিশুর জন্য
اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ فَرَطًا وَذُخْرًا لِوَالِدَيْهِ، وَشَفِيعًا مُجَابًا
আল্লাহুম্মাজ‘আলহু ফারাতান ওয়া যুখরান লি-ওয়ালিদাইহি, ওয়া শাফী‘আন মুজাবান
Allāhumma-j‘alhu faraṭan wa dhukhran li-wālidayh, wa shafī‘an mujāban
হে আল্লাহ, তাকে তার পিতামাতার জন্য অগ্রগামী ও সঞ্চয় বানান, এবং কবুলযোগ্য সুপারিশকারী করুন।
O Allah, make him one who goes ahead, a treasure for his parents, and an intercessor whose plea is answered.

O Allah, make him one who goes ahead, and a treasure stored up, for his parents. There is no asking of forgiveness for one who bore no sin.
06At the gravesideকবরের পাশে
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَىٰ سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ
Bismillāhi wa ʿalā sunnati rasūli’llāh
বিসমিল্লাহি ওয়া আলা সুন্নাতি রাসূলিল্লাহ
শরীর নামানোর সময় বলা হয়, ডান কাতে কিবলামুখী করে শোয়ানো হয়। উপস্থিত প্রত্যেকে তিন মুঠো মাটি দেন। তারপর কিছুক্ষণ দাঁড়িয়ে তার জন্য ক্ষমা চান — এখন তাকে প্রশ্ন করা হচ্ছে।
Said as the body is lowered, laid on its right side facing the qiblah. Three handfuls of earth from each who is present. Then stand a while and ask forgiveness for him — he is being questioned now.

07If you arrive after the burialদাফনের পরে পৌঁছালে
নামায ছুটে যায়নি। কবরের কাছেই একই চার তাকবীরে দাঁড়িয়ে পড়া হয় — যেমন তিনি ﷺ সেই নারীর জানাযা পড়েছিলেন যিনি মসজিদ ঝাড়ু দিতেন, যাকে রাতে দাফন করা হয়েছিল আর তাঁকে জানানো হয়নি।
The prayer is not missed. It is prayed at the grave itself, in the same four takbīrs, standing — as he ﷺ prayed over the woman who used to sweep the masjid, after they had buried her by night and had not told him.
জানাযা ছাড়া যাকে দাফন করা হয়েছে, যে জানবে তার উপর তার হক আছে। দাফনের পর এক মাস পর্যন্ত কবরে পড়া হয়, কেউ কেউ আরও বেশি অনুমতি দেন।
The one who was buried without a prayer has a right upon whoever comes to know of it. It is prayed at the grave for up to a month after the burial, and some allow it longer.

08Ṣalāt al-ghā’ib — for one who died elsewhereসালাতুল গায়িব — যিনি অন্যত্র মারা গেছেন
কোনো মুসলিম এমন দেশে মারা গেলে যেখানে কেউ তার জানাযা পড়েনি, তার জন্য অনুপস্থিতিতে, কিবলামুখী হয়ে, একই চার তাকবীরে নামায পড়া হয় — যেমন তিনি ﷺ নাজাশীর জন্য পড়েছিলেন যেদিন তিনি আবিসিনিয়ায় মারা যান।
When a Muslim dies in a land where no one prayed over him, he is prayed over in absence, facing the qiblah, in the same four takbīrs — as he ﷺ prayed over the Negus on the day he died in Abyssinia.
যে দেশে মারা গেছেন সেখানে জানাযা ইতিমধ্যে হয়ে থাকলে আলিমদের মতভেদ আছে; নিরাপদ আমল হলো পুনরায় না পড়ে তার জন্য দু‘আ করা।
Where the funeral prayer has already been offered in the land he died in, the scholars differ; the safer practice is to supplicate for him rather than to repeat it.
মসজিদে বা দাফনের স্থানে পড়া হয়। এর নির্দিষ্ট সময় নেই, এবং বড় জামা‘আত জড়ো করতে দেরি করা হয় না।
It is prayed in the masjid or at the place of burial. There is no fixed hour for it, and it is not delayed to gather a larger congregation.

যে জানাযা পড়ে সে এক কীরাত পায়, আর যে দাফন পর্যন্ত থাকে সে দুই কীরাত — প্রতিটি উহুদ পাহাড়ের সমান।
Whoever prays over a funeral has one qīrāṭ, and whoever stays until the burial has two — each like the mountain of Uḥud.

Offering condolence
Say أَعْظَمَ اللَّهُ أَجْرَكَ وَأَحْسَنَ عَزَاءَكَ وَغَفَرَ لِمَيِّتِكَ — may Allah make great your reward, make beautiful your consoling, and forgive your deceased. Then feed the family; do not ask them to feed you.

Aʿẓama’llāhu ajrak, wa aḥsana ʿazā’ak, wa ghafara li-mayyitik
আ'যামাল্লাহু আজরাক, ওয়া আহসানা আযাআক, ওয়া গাফারা লিমাইয়িতিক
বিন্দু-রেখার পাশের লাইনগুলো আরবির উচ্চারণ, হরকত দেখে নিয়ম অনুযায়ী তৈরি। এগুলো ছাপা সংস্করণের নয় এবং কেউ যাচাই করেননি: কোথাও আরবির সঙ্গে না মিললে আরবিটিই সঠিক।
