Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I advise you to treat women kindly, for the woman was created from a rib, and the most crooked part of the rib is its uppermost part. If you try to straighten it, you will break it; and if you leave it, it will remain crooked. So, treat women kindly."
Another narration reads: "A woman is like a rib: if you straighten her, you will break her, and if you enjoy her, you will enjoy her as she has some crookedness."
Another narration reads: "The woman was created from a rib and will not remain straight for you in any way. So, if you enjoy her, you enjoy her as she has some crookedness. And if you try to straighten her, you will break her, and breaking her is divorcing her."
Narrated by Muslim - Al-Bukhari and Muslim with its two versionsGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) conveys a message regarding how women should be treated. He reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) asked them to accept his advice that they should treat women in a kind and good manner. This is because women are characterized by some deficiency in their reason, religion, thinking, and all of their affairs, since they were created from a rib. To clarify, Allah created Adam (peace be upon him) from dust without father and mother. When Allah, the Exalted, willed to bring humanity out of Adam, He created his wife (Eve) from his bent rib. If a man wants to benefit from his bent rib, he has to benefit from it with its bending there. If he tried to straighten it, he would break it.
Likewise, if a person wants to enjoy a woman, he has to enjoy her while crookedness remains in her and accept the benefits available. However, if he tries to straighten her, she will not be straightened and he will not be able to, because if she becomes straight in her religious matters, she will not be straight in the matters related to her nature. A woman will never behave exactly as her husband wishes. Rather, there must be cases of disagreement and negligence in addition to a sort of deficiency that already exists in her. Therefore, if you try to straighten her, you will break her, and breaking her is divorcing her. In other words, if you try to straighten her in the way you like, you will not be able to, and as a result you will get fed up with her and divorce her.

‘Abdullāh ibn Zam‘ah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) deliver a sermon when he mentioned the she-camel and the man who had slain it. Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the most wretched of them was sent forth, a man who was unique (in the bad sense), wicked and strong among his people, rushed to kill it." Then, he mentioned women and advised regarding them and said: "Some of you would whip your wives as if they were slaves and then have intercourse with them at the end of the day." Then, he warned them against laughing at the act of passing wind, saying: "Why should any of you laugh at another doing what he does himself?"
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
‘Abdullāh ibn Zam‘ah (may Allah be pleased with him) mentions that he heard the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) deliver a sermon from above his camel. This is because it was from the Prophet's guidance not to overburden himself. He would thus not request something that was not available, nor would he reject something that was available, as long as this would not entail negligence or exaggeration in the Shariah. The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was giving the sermon, and ‘Abdullāh ibn Zam‘ah heard him. He heard him mention the she-camel, which was the miracle of Prophet Sālih (Methusaleh) (peace be upon him). He also mentioned the one who had slain it, whose name was Qudhār, and he was the most wretched among his people. He made mention of some of his descriptions saying that he was unique (in the bad sense of the word) and extremely corrupt and that he enjoyed a high status among his people. Then, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said during his sermon: "Some of you would whip their wives as if they were slaves." This indicates harsh disciplining. The context of the Hadīth indicates the improbability of these two being done by a rational person, i.e. that he would beat his wife severely and then have sexual intercourse with her the same day or night. This is because sexual intercourse normally requires a desire for companionship, love, and affection, whereas the one who is whipped normally shuns the one who whipped him. So, the dispraise of this type of action was pointed out here. If beating is necessary, it should be a gentle beating that does not cause complete repulsion, so one should not exceed the proper limits in both beating and disciplining. Then, he warned them against laughing at the act of passing wind because it is against good manners and because it entails exposing other people. Out of criticism for such an attitude, he said: "Why should any of you laugh at another doing what he does himself?" This is because laughing is normally caused by something strange or astonishing that lead to smiling. If the smile gets stronger and is accompanied by a sound, it will be considered laughter, and if it becomes even stronger than that, it will be called a guffaw. Since passing wind normally happens to all people, then what is the reason for laughing at the one who passes wind?

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let not a believing man hate a believing woman. If he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another." Or he said: "another one."
Narrated by MuslimGradeAuthentic
Explanation
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a husband from hating his wife in such a way that would lead him to wrong her, abandon her, and turn away from her. Deficiency is part of man's nature, so, if he dislikes a bad characteristic in her, he will find another good one. He will, thus, be pleased with what he approves of and will patiently endure what he disapproves of the bad characteristics. This will help him remain patient without hating her in such a way that leads him to part with her.
Benefits
- Calling the believer to be fair and refer to reason whenever a dispute arises with his wife without resorting to emotions and temporary feelings.
- A believer does not entirely hate a female believer in such a way that drives him to leave her; rather, he should overlook what he hates for what he loves.
- Encouraging kindness and good companionship between spouses.
- Faith calls to noble morals. Thus, no believing man or woman is free of good morals, as faith requires the existence of praiseworthy qualities in both of them.

Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that ‘Uthmān ibn Mazh‘ūn had an extreme desire to commit himself to worship and abandon the pleasures of this life. He asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) for permission to be celibate, i.e. refrain from marriage and dedicate himself to worshiping Allah. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) did not give him permission because abandoning the pleasures of this life and withdrawing from it to focus on worship alone is a form of extremism in religion and monasticism which are dispraised and objectionable in Islam. The correct religion is to perform the acts of worship that Allah has ordered us to perform while giving the bodily self its portion of the good things and pleasures of this life (in the proper and legal manner). Had the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) given ‘Uthmān permission to be celibate many of diligent sincere worshipers would have followed him in adopting celibacy (to the extreme point of castration).

Abu Hurayrah(may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A previously married woman should not be married until her verbal consent has been sought, and a virgin should not be married until her permission has been sought." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is her permission?" He said: "When she remains silent."'
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
Marriage is a serious contract whereby husband gains lawful access to what women guard most: private parts. By virtue of this contract, a woman becomes like a captive with her husband. Thus, the All-Wise, the Merciful, the Fair Legislator (Allah) gave her the right to choose her life partner, since she is the one who would live with him, and she is more aware of her inclinations and desires. Therefore, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade marrying a previously married woman (divorced or widow) until her command is sought and she gives it. He also forbade marrying off a virgin until her permission is sought and she gives it. Since a virgin is most likely shy regarding such matters, it is sufficient to get her permission which is lighter than her command. It is also sufficient that she remains silent to indicate her consent.

So I proposed to a girl and would hide for her until I saw what urged me to marry her, so I married her.
Narrated by Abu Daoud - Narrated by AhmadGradeGood hadith
Explanation
This Hadīth indicates the desirability for a man to look at the woman whom he wants to marry. It is permissible to look at the face and the hands, for the face indicates beauty and the palms indicate plumpness or otherwise. This is the opinion adopted by most scholars. It is not required to seek the woman's consent to look at her. One may look when the woman is unaware of him, without knowing beforehand that he will look at her. In this respect, the Companion Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) did so. If a man cannot look at the woman, he may send a woman whom he trusts to look at her and describe her to him. It is permissible to do this because it is more expected that the future spouses will live together amicably as their marriage was based on acquaintance, and so they would, most probably, not regret getting married to each other.

Explanation
This Hadīth encourages announcing and publicizing marriages as well as communicating information regarding them to the people as a means of showing joy and in order to make them different from secret marriages. Customs and traditions regulate the ways to announce marriages. The means of announcing marriages include wedding banquets, having witnesses, accompanying and celebrating the husband when he leaves with the bride, beating the duff (big tambourine), blowing the horns of cars, and so on.

Narrated by Abu Dāwūd, At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Mājah, and AhmadGradeAuthentic
Explanation
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) points out that a woman's marriage is not valid without a guardian who concludes the marriage contract.
Benefits
- The guardian is a prerequisite for the validity of marriage. If the marriage occurs without a guardian or a woman marries herself off, the marriage is not valid.
- The guardian is the closest man to a woman. No distant guardian can marry her off while a closer guardian is available.
- A guardian must be: accountable, male, wise, aware of the interests related to marriage, and have the same religion as the one under his guardianship. Whoever does not fulfill these requirements is not qualified to be a guardian in a marriage contract.
