Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a dog drinks from the vessel of any of you, let him wash it seven times." In a version by Muslim: "the first of which is with dust."
Agreed uponGradeAuthentic
Explanation
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that a vessel be washed seven times if a dog puts its tongue into it. The first of these times should be accompanied by dirt, followed by water, so that it is completely clean from its impurity and harm.
Benefits
- The dog's saliva is extremely impure.
- When a dog licks a vessel, this makes it and the water in it impure.
- The command to cleanse a utensil with dust and repeat this seven times is only related to the dog's licking, apart from its urine and excrement and anything else it has made dirty.
- How to wash a pot with dirt: Put water in the pot and add dirt to it, and then wash the pot with this mixture.
- Apparently, the Hadīth applies to all dogs, including those sanctioned by the Shariah to be acquired, like hunting and guard dogs and those associated with cattle.
- Soap and potash may not replace dust in this regard, because the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) specifically mentioned dust.

Kabshah bint Ka‘b ibn Mālik, who was married to the son of Abu Qatādah, reported: Abu Qatādah came in so I poured out some water for him to use for ablution. A cat came to drink from it, so he tilted the vessel for it until it drank. Kabshah continued: He saw me looking at him and said: "Do you find it strange, O daughter of my brother?" I said: 'Yes.' He said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'It is not impure. It is one of those who roam around among you.'"

Explanation
The Hadīth relates that Abu Qatādah had started making ablution when a cat came in - and cats frequently enter people's homes and mix with them. He tilted the vessel for it so it could drink from the water of ablution. Kabshah, his niece, was surprised at what he did, given that the water was prepared for ablution and it must be pure and purifying. So he related to her the Hadīth in which the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said that cats are not impure and thus do not affect the purity of water, because it is an animal that always mixes with people.

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He who drinks - another narration reads: He who eats or drinks - in a vessel (made) of gold or silver has, in fact, swallowed in his stomach fire from Hell."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
This Hadīth contains a severe warning for whoever uses vessels made of, coated with, or adorned with gold or silver. The horrible sound of the punishment of Hellfire would be heard in the bellies of those who do so. This is because this act involves imitating the disbelievers, arrogance, and breaking the hearts of the poor, while, indeed, Islam aims at safeguarding Muslims from extravagance and degeneration. This is also because both gold and sliver were, until recently, used as currencies; thus using them as vessels or antiques, etc. paralyzes the commercial system and unnecessarily impedes the fulfillment of required and essential needs.
The prohibition in the Hadīth is not restricted to using these as vessels for food or drink; it rather extends to cover any other usage, unless permitted by Shariah like jewelry for women.

Al-‘Āliyah bint Subay‘ reported: I had some sheep at Uhud, and they began to die. I visited Maymūnah, the Prophet's wife, and mentioned it to her. Maymūnah said to me: "It would be better if you took their skins and made use of them." I asked: "Is that lawful?" She replied: "Yes. Some people of the Quraysh passed by the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) dragging one of their sheep like a donkey (in its size or for its disposal). The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: ‘Would that you took its skin.’ They said: ‘It died a natural death.’ The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Water and Qarazh (leaves of the mimosa) purify it.'"
Narrated by Abu Daoud - Narrated by AhmadGradeGood hadith
Explanation
Al-‘Āliyah bint Subay‘ (may Allah have mercy on her) relates that she had some sheep that began to die from some illness or some other cause. She went and informed Maymūnah (may Allah be pleased with her) who directed her to make use of its skin. She said: "Is it permissible to make use of its skin after its death?" Maymūnah said: "Yes, it is permissible," and then she proved her statement with a story that occurred when some men from the Quraysh passed by the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) dragging one of their sheep as a donkey to get rid of it, or it was similar to a donkey in its size. So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "It would be better if you made use of it rather than throwing it away." They said: "It has died a natural death (without slaughtering)" as if they supposed that the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was not aware that it had died without being slaughtered, while they knew that all parts of a dead animal are unlawful due to its impurity. The Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed them that tanning it with water and leaves of the mimosa plant would render this impure substance pure.

Explanation
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) had a glass to drink water in. The cup cracked, so the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) mended it with a silver chain, i.e. He took a piece of silver and joined the two sides of the crack.
