When a man loves his brother, he should tell him that he loves him

Al-Miqdām ibn Ma‘di Karib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a man loves his brother, he should tell him that he loves him."
Narrated by Abu Dāwūd, At-Tirmidhi, and An-Nasā’i in Al-Kubra and by AhmadGradeAuthentic
Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) demonstrates one of the means that strengthens the bond between the believers and spreads love among them: If a person loves his fellow Muslim, he should tell him that he loves him.

Benefits
  1. It points out the merit of love being purely for Allah's sake, not for worldly interests.
  2. It is recommended to tell the one you love for Allah's sake that you love him. This will increase your love and friendliness.
  3. Spreading love among the believers boosts their fraternity in faith, and protects society from disintegration and disunity.

Who is that who swears that I will not forgive so-and-so? Indeed, I have forgiven him and rendered worthless your deeds

Jundub ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man said: 'By Allah, Allah will not forgive so-and-so.' Thereupon, Allah said: 'Who is that who swears that I will not forgive so-and-so? Indeed, I have forgiven him and rendered worthless your deeds.'" In a similar Hadīth reported by Abu Hurayrah: ''The sayer was a worshiper.'' Abu Hurayrah said: ''He said a word that ruined his life and Hereafter.’'
Narrated by MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation

Warning against the dangers of the tongue, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) says that a man once swore that Allah would not forgive a sinner. It was as if he was passing a judgment that limits Allah's authority, believing in his credit and the sinner's disgrace. His conceit implies his rudeness toward Allah, a practice that subjected him to a miserable fate in life and the Hereafter.

One may utter a word thoughtlessly and, as a result of this, he will fall down into Hellfire for a distance greater than the distance between the east and the west

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One may utter a word thoughtlessly and, as a result of this, he will fall down into Hellfire for a distance greater than the distance between the east and the west."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informs us that there are people who do not think before they speak whether what they are about to say is good or evil. The result of this thoughtlessness is that this person, if he said something that displeases Allah, would expose himself to the punishment of Allah in the fire of Hell. He may speak a word that is so evil that it would cause him to fall into Hellfire farther than the distance between the east and the west.

When the son of Adam gets up in the morning, all of his body organs humble themselves before the tongue, and say: Fear Allah concerning us! For indeed, we are only as you are (our condition depends upon yours); if you are upright, we shall be upright, and if you are crooked, we shall be crooked

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the son of Adam gets up in the morning, all of his body organs humble themselves before the tongue, and say: 'Fear Allah concerning us! For indeed, we are only as you are (our condition depends upon yours); if you are upright, we shall be upright, and if you are crooked, we shall be crooked.’"
Narrated by At-TermedhyGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation

Meaning of the Hadīth: All body organs submit and humble themselves before the tongue, i.e. they are subordinate to the tongue. That is why when one gets up in the morning, they say: “Fear Allah concerning us! For indeed, we are only as you are…” The tongue is the most dangerous organ. If it is upright, all other organs will be upright and the rest of one's deeds will be good. However, if the tongue is crooked, all of the organs will be crooked and the rest of one's deeds will be evil. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A slave’s faith will not be upright unless his heart is upright, and his heart will not be upright unless his tongue is upright." This chapter includes many Hadīths that indicate the danger of the tongue. It is either a source of happiness or a reason for punishment. If one subjugates it to the obedience of Allah, then it will be a source of happiness for him in this world and the Hereafter. However, if he lets it loose in that which does not please Allah, the Exalted, it will be a reason for regret in this world and the Hereafter.

I said: O Messenger of Allah, what is salvation? He said: "Control your tongue, abide in your house, and weep over your sin

‘Uqbah ibn ‘Āmir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I said: O Messenger of Allah, what is salvation? He said: "Control your tongue, abide in your house, and weep over your sin."
Narrated by At-Tirmidhi and AhmadGradeAuthentic
Explanation

‘Uqbah ibn ‘Āmir (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about the means of the believer's salvation in this world and the Hereafter. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Adhere to three things: First: Hold back your tongue from whatever is devoid of goodness and from saying anything evil, and utter only what is good. Second: Abide in your house to worship Allah in seclusion, engage in obeying Allah Almighty, and retire in your house away from temptations. Third: Weep and regret the sins you have committed.

Benefits
  1. The Companions' keenness to know the means of salvation.
  2. Clarifying the means of salvation in this world and the Hereafter.
  3. Encouraging the act of being preoccupied with oneself when one is incapable of benefitting others or fears that he or his religion might be subject to harm if he mingles with people.
  4. Indication of paying attention to one's house, especially at times of turmoil, as it is among the means of maintaining one's religion.

A person may utter a word pleasing to Allah, the Almighty, without considering it of any significance, and because of it Allah raises his ranks; and a person may utter a word displeasing to Allah, the Almighty, without considering it of any significance, and because of it he sinks down into Hellfire

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person may utter a word pleasing to Allah, the Almighty, without considering it of any significance, and because of it Allah raises his ranks; and a person may utter a word displeasing to Allah, the Almighty, without considering it of any significance, and because of it he sinks down into Hellfire." Abu ‘Abdur-Rahmān Bilāl ibn al-Hārith al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person may utter a word pleasing to Allah, the Almighty, and he does not think it will yield such a result, and because of it Allah writes for him His pleasure until the Day he will meet Him; and a person may utter a word displeasing to Allah, the Almighty, and he does not think it will yield such a result, and because of it Allah writes for him His displeasure until the Day he will meet Him."
Narrated by Ibn Majah - Narrated by Bukhari - Narrated by At-Termedhy - Narrated by Ahmad - MaalikGradeSahih/Authentic with its two versions
Explanation

A person may speak a word which Allah, the Almighty, loves and is pleased with, like advising, directing, or teaching others, and he does not realize the level it reaches in terms of the pleasure of Allah, the Almighty, and because of that word Allah raises him to lofty ranks. Likewise, a person may speak a word that displeases Allah, such as backbiting, gossip, and slander, and it causes him to fall into Hellfire on the Day of Resurrection.

Do you know what backbiting is?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "It is to say of your brother what he dislikes

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what backbiting is?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "It is to say of your brother what he dislikes." It was said: "What do you think if what I say of my brother is true?" He said: "If what you say of him is true, you have backbitten him; and if not, you have slandered him."
Narrated by MuslimGradeAuthentic
Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) clarified the prohibited backbiting, which is to speak about an absent Muslim in a way he dislikes, whether you mention traits related to his manners or appearance, like saying the one-eyed man, the cheater, the liar, and or any other reprehensible trait, even if it truly exists in him. However, if the trait does not exist in him, this is worse than backbiting. This is slander, which is to fabricate bad things about someone.

Benefits
  1. The Hadīth shows the Prophet’s excellent way of teaching, as he used to bring up issues by means of questions.
  2. It demonstrates the Companions' politeness towards the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when they said: Allah and His Messenger know best.
  3. A person questioned about something he does not know should say: Allah knows best.
  4. The Shariah protects society by maintaining the rights of its members and the fraternity among them.
  5. Backbiting is prohibited except, in some cases, for serving a certain interest. Examples include the removal of oppression, as an oppressed person speaks to someone who is able to restore his right to him from the one who wronged him, saying: So-and-so wronged me or did such and such to me. Another example is when someone seeks the opinion of others regarding marriage, partnership, neighboring, and so on.

There is nothing heavier on the believer's scale on the Day of Judgment than good morals. Indeed, Allah detests the one who is indecent and foulmouthed

Abu ad-Dardā’ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is nothing heavier on the believer's scale on the Day of Judgment than good morals. Indeed, Allah detests the one who is indecent and foulmouthed."
Narrated by Abu Dāwūd and At-TirmidhiGradeAuthentic
Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informed that the heaviest thing, among deeds and sayings, on the believer's scale on the Day of Judgment is good morals represented in having a cheerful face, refraining from harming others and doing good to others. Allah Almighty hates the one who is ugly in his deeds and words, the foulmouthed who uses offensive language.

Benefits
  1. The merit of good morals; for it leads one to win the love of Allah and the love of His slaves and it is the greatest thing weighed on the Day of Judgement.
