Zakāt calculator
الزكاةThe Zakāt Worksheet from the library, with the arithmetic done for you. Nothing you enter leaves this phone.
Scholarly review: pending
This text comes from the Sabīl print library. Its scholarly review is still in progress; every item will carry its reviewers’ names and the date once two scholars have signed it.
Zakāt falls due once a full lunar year passes over wealth that met the niṣāb at the start of that year. Choose one Ḥijrī date and keep to it every year — most choose a date in Ramaḍān. What matters is the balance on that day, not the fluctuations between.
Enter today’s price per gram from a jeweller or a bullion dealer. Sabīl does not fetch prices, so nothing about you is sent anywhere.
Enter a price per gram to see the niṣāb.
Use the silver niṣāb where your wealth is in cash or mixed — it is the lower threshold and more beneficial to the poor, and is the position of Ḥ. Using gold is the practice of many contemporary institutions.
Ḥ zakats worn jewellery; M, S, Ḥb exempt what is worn in moderation.
Held long-term for dividends: the zakatable assets behind them only.
The property itself is not zakatable.
Not zakatable: your home, your car, furniture, clothing, tools of your trade, and a long-term mortgage beyond the instalments falling due this year.
An aid to calculation that follows the worksheet. It is not a fatwā; for your own case, ask a scholar.
The worksheet explains the ḥawl date, who may receive zakāt, and where the schools differ.
