Al-Barā’ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: "I have never seen anyone with shoulder-length hair and wearing a red garment more beautiful than the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). He had shoulder-length hair and broad shoulders and was neither tall nor short."
Agreed uponGradeAuthentic
Explanation
Al-Barā’ ibn ‘Āzib (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that he never saw anyone whose hair was long, reaching his shoulders, and who wore a black lower and upper garment with red stripes, more handsome than the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). Among his physical characteristics was that he was broad between the shoulders, with a wide chest, and he was of medium height, neither tall nor short.
Benefits
- Clarifying some of the outward beautiful qualities of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), such as the beauty of his hair, the broadness of his chest, his handsome stature, and other characteristics.
- The love of the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) for the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was so profound that they would narrate and transmit to those after them his physical characteristics and moral attributes.

‘Ā’ishah, Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) preferred beginning with the right side when wearing his sandals, combing his hair, purifying himself, and in all of his affairs.
Agreed uponGradeAuthentic
Explanation
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would like and prefer to begin with the right side in all matters worthy of honor. This includes the following: He would begin with the right foot in putting on his sandals, and begin with the right side in grooming, combing, and oiling his hair and beard; and in his ablution, he would start with the right side in washing his hands and feet.
Benefits
- An-Nawawi said: This is a constant rule in the Shariah: that in doing any activity worthy of honor, like wearing a garment, lower garment, and sandals, entering the mosque, using the Siwāk (tooth-stick), applying kohl, clipping the nails, trimming the mustache, combing the hair, plucking the armpit hair, shaving the head, making Taslīm in prayer, washing the parts to be washed in ablution, leaving the lavatory, eating and drinking, shaking hands, touching the Black Stone, etc., it is recommended to start with the right side. As for the opposite activities, like entering the lavatory, leaving the mosque, blowing the nose, Istinjā’ (cleaning oneself after urinating or defecating), putting off garment, pants, and sandals, and the like, it is recommended to begin with the left side. This is all due to the high status and honor of the right side.
- "The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) preferred beginning with the right side" includes beginning activities with the right hand, the right leg, and the right side, and receiving anything from the right side.
- An-Nawawi said: Know that it is not recommended to begin with the right side in washing some parts of ablution, namely the ears, the hands, and the cheeks. Each pair of them should be purified at once. If this is not possible, like in the case of a one-armed person, he should begin with the right side.

Abu Juhayfah Wahb ibn ‘Abdullāh As-Suwā'i (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I came to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he was in a red leather tent. Bilāl stepped out with ablution water (that was left over from the Prophet's ablution). There were people who managed to get some of it (seeking its blessing), whereas others just received a sprinkle of it. Then the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) came out wearing a red garment. It is as if I am looking right now at the whiteness of his legs. He performed ablution and Bilāl called the Adhān (the call to prayer). I kept watching the movement of his mouth (as he turned) to this side and that side and he said to the right and to the left: "Come to prayer, come to success!" Then a spear was fixed for him (in the ground). He stepped forward and performed two Rak‘ahs for the Zhuhr prayer, and he did not stop performing two Rak‘ahs until he returned to Madīnah.
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was in Al-Abtah in upper Makkah. Bilāl came out with the water that was left over from the ablution of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and people were seeking blessing from that water. Then Bilāl called the Adhān. Abu Juhayfah said that he kept watching Bilāl's mouth as he was turning to the right and left saying: “Come to prayer, come to success”, so the people could hear him, as these two sentences are intended to encourage them to come to the prayer. Then a short spear was fixed in the ground for the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) to act as a Sutrah for him during his prayer. He performed two Rak‘ahs for the Zhuhr prayer and he continued to shorten the four-Rak‘ah prayers until he returned to Madīnah, because he was a traveler.

Abu Sa‘īd ‘Amr ibn Hurayth (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wearing a black turban with its ends hanging loose between his shoulders.
In another narration: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) gave a sermon while wearing a black turban."
Muslim with its two versionsGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
The Hadīth reported by Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) states that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) entered Makkah on the day of its conquest wearing a black turban. This indicates that it is permissible to wear black clothing. The second narration reporting that the Prophet gave a sermon while wearing a black turban shows the permissibility of wearing black clothes when delivering a sermon. However, wearing white clothing is better as reported in a Sahīh Hadīth: "The best of your clothing is the white ones." Wearing black clothes by sermon givers is permissible, but white is better. That is the Prophet's wearing a black turban in this Hadīth just shows that it is permissible. As for the other Hadīth reported by ‘Amr ibn Hurayth, saying: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wearing a black turban with its ends hanging loose between his shoulders," it indicates the permissibility of wearing a black turban and letting its ends hang down between the shoulders.

Narrated by At-Termedhy - Narrated by Abu Daoud - Narrated by AhmadGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
The garment that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) liked most was the Qamīs (long shirt) because it covers the body better than the Izār and Ridā'. Also, because it is one piece and thus easier to wear. However, if you are in a country where people are used to wearing Izār and Ridā' and you dress like them, there is no harm in that. The important thing is to not oppose the style of the people of the country, thereby becoming famous for it. Indeed, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing garment for fame and vanity.
