There is no emigration after the Conquest, but there is Jihad and good intention, and whenever you are called for Jihad, you should immediately respond to the call

‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no emigration after the Conquest (of Makkah), but there is Jihad and good intention, and whenever you are called for Jihad, you should immediately respond to the call." On the same day, he added: "Verily, Allah has made this city sacred since the day He created the heavens and the earth. Thus, it is a sanctuary by Allah’s decree until the Day of Judgment. Fighting in it was not permissible for anyone before me, and it was made permissible for me for only an hour of a day. It is sacred by the sacredness granted by Allah until the Day of Judgment. Its thorns should not be cut off, and its game should not be chased, and any lost item found therein should not be picked up except by one who would announce it publicly, and its green grass should not be cut off." Al-‘Abbās said: "O Messenger of Allah, except for lemongrass, for it is used by their blacksmiths and for their domestic purposes.' So, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) responded: "Except for lemongrass."

Explanation

Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) informs that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon on the Day of the Conquest of Makkah. He said that there is no emigration from Makkah, because it has become part of the Muslim lands. He then ordered the Muslims to fight if they are ordered to, in obedience to Allah, His Messenger and the ruler of the land. He then spoke of the sanctity of Makkah, and that it has been made sacred since Allah created the heavens and the earth. He said that it was not made lawful for anyone to fight in before him and that it will not be made permissible for any one after him either, as it was made lawful for him to fight therein for only an hour of the day, and then it returned to its original state of sanctity. He then mentioned that it is not permissible to cut off its thorns or to chase its game, and that no one should pick up lost items found in it except if he wants to announce it. He added that its vegetation should not be cut off, including grass and fodder. He excluded lemongrass because of the benefits it provides to the people of Makkah as it was used by the blacksmiths in starting fire for their work.

Five animals are all vicious and harmful and are to be killed (even) inside the Sacred Precincts: the crow, the kite, the scorpion, the mouse, and the mordacious dog

‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Five animals are vicious and harmful and are to be killed (even) inside the Sacred Precincts: the crow, the kite, the scorpion, the mouse, and the mordacious dog." Another narration reads: "Five evil things are to be killed inside the Sacred Precincts and outside them."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation

In this Hadīth ‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) informs us that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the killing of five vicious and harmful animals, whether inside the Sacred Precincts boundaries or outside it, and whether the person is in a state of Ihrām or not. Then he mentioned these five animals: the crow, the kite, the scorpion, the mouse, and the mordacious dog (that which is given to biting). These are five types of animals that were described as vicious for being aggressive and harmful, unlike the rest of the animals. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) enumerated them because they differ in the kind of harm they cause, so other animals that resemble them in harm are included, and are to be killed because of their harm and transgression. Their presence inside the Sacred Precincts does not protect them, and the state of Ihrām does not prevent killing them.

Madīnah is a sanctuary from ‘Ayr to Thawr (mountains). Whoever innovates something new (in religion) or shelters an innovator in it will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and Allah will accept from him neither an obligatory nor a supererogatory prayer on the Day of Resurrection

Yazīd ibn Sharīk ibn Tāriq reported: I saw ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) delivering a speech from the pulpit, and I heard him say: "By Allah! We have no book to read except the Book of Allah and what is written in this scroll." He unrolled the scroll, and it showed a list of the types of camels to be given as blood-money and contained other legal matters relating to the killing of game in the sanctuary of Makkah and the expiation for it. In it was also written: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Madīnah is a sanctuary from ‘Ayr to Thawr (mountains). Whoever innovates something new (in religion) or shelters an innovator in it will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and Allah will accept from him neither an obligatory nor a supererogatory prayer on the Day of Resurrection. A pledge of protection granted by any Muslim, even of the lowest status is the same and should be honored by all Muslims. Whoever betrays a Muslim in this respect will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and Allah will accept from him neither an obligatory nor a supererogatory prayer on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever attributes his fatherhood to someone other than his (real) father or takes as his master someone other than his (real) master will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and Allah will accept from him neither an obligatory nor a supererogatory prayer on the Day of Resurrection.'"

Explanation

While delivering a speech from the pulpit, ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “By Allah! We have no book to read except the Book of Allah and what is written in this scroll.” As he unrolled it, it showed a list of the types of camels to be given as blood-money and it contained other legal matters relating to the killing of game in the sanctuary of Makkah and the expiation for it. It also included the Prophet's statement declaring Madīnah as inviolable as Makkah, from Mount ‘Ayr to Mount Thawr. Whoever introduces a religious innovation in it, causes any harm to Muslims, or shelters an innovator will incur the curse of Allah, which means deprivation of His mercy, and the angels and all people will ask Allah to expel him from His mercy. Then, on the Day of Judgment, Allah, the Almighty, will not accept any prayer (obligatory or supererogatory), repentance, or ransom from him. Moreover, the protection given by any Muslim to a non-Muslim is valid, as long as it conforms to the relevant conditions. Once in place, it is prohibited to violate it. If anyone does so, he will be subject to the curse of Allah, which means he will be deprived of His mercy, and the angels and all people will ask the Almighty Lord to expel him from His mercy. Then, on the Day of Judgment, Allah, the Almighty, will not accept any prayer, obligatory or supererogatory, repentance, or ransom from him. If someone attributes himself to someone other than his real father or if a freed slave attributes himself to someone other than his master, he will incur the curse of Allah, the Almighty, which means deprivation of His mercy, and the angels and all people will ask Allah to expel him from His mercy. Then, on the Day of Judgment, Allah, the Almighty, will not accept any prayer (obligatory or supererogatory), repentance, or ransom from him. This is because these actions involve ingratitude and cause a loss of the rights to inheritance, allegiance, blood-money, and so on, and sever the ties of kinship.

Allah, the Almighty, held back the elephants from Makkah, but He enabled His Messenger and the believers to conquer it. Fighting in it was not permitted for anybody before me, nor will it be permitted for anybody after me; it was permitted for me only for a short while during the day. Verily, it is from this moment a sanctuary

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When Allah, the Almighty, enabled His Messenger to conquer Makkah, the tribe of Khuzā‘ah killed a man from the tribe of Banu Layth in revenge for a person who was killed from their tribe before Islam. So the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) got up and said: "Allah, the Almighty, held back the elephant from Makkah, but He enabled His Messenger and the believers to conquer it. Fighting in it was not permitted for anybody before me, nor will it be permitted for anybody after me; it was permitted for me only for a short while during the day. Verily, it is from this moment a sanctuary; its trees should not be cut down; its grass should not be removed; its thorny shrubs should not be uprooted; and lost items found in it should not be taken except by one who intends to look for its owner. And if somebody is killed, his heir has the option to either kill in retaliation or accept blood money." A man from Yemen named Abu Shāh stood up and said: "Write that for me, O Messenger of Allah", The Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Write that for Abu Shāh." Then Al-‘Abbās stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah, except for lemongrass, for we use it in our houses and graves." The Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Except for lemongrass."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that after the conquest of Makkah, a man from Khuzā‘ah murdered a man from Hudhayl in retaliation for having killed one of their people before Islam. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and gave the speech mentioned in the Hadīth, wherein he highlighted the sanctity of Makkah and stated that Allah, the Almighty, Who prevented the elephant’s army from entering it, permitted His Prophet to fight and conquer it for only a short time of that day. The word ‘sā‘ah’ here does not mean an hour in the literal sense; rather, it signifies part of the day of the conquest. This was made permissible for the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) from the morning of that day to the afternoon. He then declared that Makkah turned back to its state of sanctity and that it was now impermissible to cut down its trees; remove its grass, except for lemongrass; uproot its thorns; or pick up the lost items found therein, except by one intending to look for its owner.

Time has completed its cycle and has returned to its state when Allah created the heavens and the earth. A year consists of twelve months, of which four are sacred; three of them are consecutive: Dhu al-Qi‘dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, Muharram, and Rajab of Mudar

Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Time has completed its cycle and has returned to its state when Allah created the heavens and the earth. The year consists of twelve months, of which four are sacred; three of them are consecutive: Dhu al-Qi‘dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, Muharram, and Rajab of Mudar which comes between the months of Jumāda and Sha‘bān. Which month is this?" We said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He remained silent for some time until we thought he was going to name it by something other than its current name. He then said: "Is this not the month of Dhu al-Hijjah?" We said: "Indeed, it is." He then said: "Which city is this?" To which we said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He then remained silent for some time until we thought he was going to name it by something other than its current name. He then said: "Is this not Al-Baldah (meaning Makkah)?" We said: "Indeed, it is." He then said: "What day is this?" We replied saying: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He then remained silent for some time until we thought he was going to name it by something other than its current name. He said: "Is this not the Day of An-Nahr (10th of Dhu al-Hijjah)?" We said: "Indeed, it is." Thereupon he said: "Indeed, your blood, your property and your honor are inviolable to one another just as the inviolability of this day of yours, in this city of yours, in this month of yours. And you will soon meet your Lord, and He will ask you about your deeds. So, do not return to disbelief after my death, striking each other's necks. Let those who are present here convey my statements to those who are not present, for perhaps someone to whom my words are conveyed will understand them better than someone who listened to them." Then he said: "Behold! Have I delivered (the message) to you? Behold! Have I delivered (the message) to you?" We answered saying: "Indeed, you have." He said: "O Allah, bear witness to this!"

Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon on the Day of An-Nahr, during the Farewell Hajj. He informed his Companions(may Allah be pleased with him) that at that point of time in the year, the Nasī’ (postponement of the sacred months people used to do in pre-Islamic Arabia) became in accordance with what Allah has legislated with regard to the sacred months. That is because the people of Jāhiliyyah (pre-Islamic times) had altered the order Allah had set for the sacred months. They would deem sacred months to be not sacred, and turned months that are not sacred to be sacred, in order to fight and oppress each other whenever they so willed. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) then explained that the year consists of twelve months, which are: Muharram, Safar, Rabī‘ al-Awwal, Rabī‘ Ath-Thāni, Jumāda al-’Ūla, Jumāda Ath-Thāniyah, Rajab, Sha‘bān, Ramadan, Shawwāl, Dhu al-Qi‘dah, and Dhu al-Hijjah. These are the twelve months of the year that Allah has made for His servants since the creation of the heavens and the earth. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) then explained that four of these months are sacred, and that three of these four months are consecutive and one is separate. The three consecutive months are: Dhu al-Qi‘dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, and Muharram. Allah has made these months sacred, meaning that fighting is not permissible in them, and no tribe is allowed to attack another therein. The reason for this is that these are the months in which people travel to Makkah to perform Hajj. It is part of Allah’s divine wisdom that He made these months sacred so that no fighting occurs during the months of Hajj. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) then said: "and Rajab of Mudar (tribe) that comes between Jumāda and Sha‘bān." This is the fourth of the sacred months, and the people before Islam would perform ‘Umrah exclusively in this month, and then perform Hajj during the other three sacred months. This month then became sacred as well, just as the other three were. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) then asked them about what month they were in, what city they were in, and what day it was. He asked them this in order to alert them and evoke their attention, because what he was going to say next was very important. When he asked them what month they were in, they said "Allah and His Messenger know best". They said this because they did not think the Prophet would ask a question with such a readily known answer, so they assumed he would say something they did not know. They therefore answered saying "Allah and His Messenger know best". This reply reflects their good manners. He then remained silent, because people pay attention to the speaker when he pauses. Abu Bakrah said that his silence was so long that they thought he was going to give it a name other than its known name. He then said: "Is it not Dhu al-Hijjah?" They answered: "Indeed, it is!" He then asked what city they were in. They answered saying that Allah and His Messenger knew best, even though they knew it was Makkah. However, out of respect to the Messenger of Allah, they gave this answer. They did not say to him that this was something already known, or say: "This is well known, O Messenger of Allah. Why are you asking us about it?" Rather, they answered politely and in a manner befitting the situation. The Messenger of Allah then remained silent, to the point that they thought he would give it another name. He then said: "Is it not Al-Baldah?" Al-Baldah is one of the names of Makkah. They said: "Indeed, it is!" He then asked: "What day is this." They answered: "Allah and His Messenger know best," just as they did previously. He said: "Is it not the Day of An-Nahr?" They said: "Indeed, it is, O Messenger of Allah," They said this knowing that it was the sacred month of Dhu al-Hijjah, in the sacred city of Makkah, on the sacred Day of An-Nahr, meaning that they were all held as sacred. He then said: "Verily, your blood, property and honor are sacred (inviolable) to you like the sacredness of this day of yours, in this city of yours, in this month of yours." He emphasized the sacredness of these three things: Blood, property and honor. These three are sacred in the sight of Allah. The word blood includes human life and what is subordinate to it (human body), property includes both large and small amounts, and honor includes illicit sexual intercourse, sodomy and false accusations of immorality, and it may also include backbiting, insulting and cursing. These three things are unlawful for a Muslim to violate with regard to his Muslim brother. He then said: "Do not return to disbelief after my death, striking the necks of one another." If Muslims started to kill each other, they become disbelievers, because a Muslim does not deem the blood of another Muslim lawful; only a non-Muslim does this. He then ordered those who witnessed his sermon to transmit it to those who were absent, and said that perhaps someone to whom the content of the sermon is conveyed might have better understanding of it than the one who heard it from him directly. This was a command to the Companions who attended the sermon, as well as to all those who hear this Hadīth until the Day of Judgment. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) then said: "Behold, have I delivered the message? Have I delivered the message?" He was asking his Companions that question and they answered: "Indeed, you have." He then said: "O Allah, bear witness to this!"

Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) - who fought along with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) in twelve battles - reported: I heard four things from the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) that appealed to me. He said: "No woman should travel on a two-day-distant journey except with her husband or a Mahram. There should be no fasting on two days: Al-Fitr and Al-Ad'ha. There should be no prayer after the Fajr prayer until the sun rises nor after the ‘Asr prayer until the sun sets. No special journey should be made except to three mosques: the Sacred Mosque, the Aqsa Mosque, and this mosque of mine."

Explanation

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade four things: First: Forbidding a woman from traveling on a two-day-distant journey without her husband or one of her Mahram men, those who are permanently forbidden to marry her from among her relatives like the son, father, nephew, maternal or paternal uncle, etc. Second: Forbidding fasting on the days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Ad'ha, whether a Muslim fasts them in fulfillment of a vow, voluntarily, or as an expiation. Third: Forbidding voluntary prayer after the ‘Asr prayer until sunset and after the rise of dawn until sunrise. Fourth: Forbidding traveling to a certain place while believing in its merit and the multiplication of rewards therein except to these three mosques. So, no special journey should be made to other mosques to pray therein, as the reward is multiplied only in these three mosques, namely the Sacred Mosque, the Prophet's Mosque, and the Aqsa Mosque.
