Al-Mughīrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Once I was in the company of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey and I bent down to take off his leather socks, but he said: "Leave them, for I had put them on when they were in the state of purity." So, he wiped over them.
Agreed uponGradeAuthentic
Explanation
In one of his journeys, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was performing ablution. On reaching the part of washing the feet, Al-Mughīrah ibn Shu‘bah (may Allah be pleased with him) stretched his hands to take off the Prophet's leather socks to wash his feet. However, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: Leave them and do not take them off, for I had put them on while being in a state of Tahārah (ritual purity). Hence, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) wiped over his leather socks instead of washing his feet.
Benefits
- The permissibility of wiping over the leather socks when performing ablution from minor Hadath (ritual impurity), but when taking a ritual bath from major Hadath, the feet must be washed.
- Wiping is done by passing the wet hand once over the surface of the leather sock, not its bottom.
- The conditions for wiping over leather socks are: wearing them after having performed a complete ablution where the feet are washed with water, the leather socks must be pure and cover the area that must be washed in ablution, wiping over them in case of minor Hadath not in case of Janābah (impurity due to sexual discharge) or what requires a ritual bath, and wiping over them during the period prescribed by Shariah, namely one day and night for the resident and three days and nights for the traveler.
- What applies to leather socks applies also to all footwear including socks and others. It is permissible to wipe over them.
- Good moral character of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his teaching method, as he forbade Al-Mughīrah from taking off his leather socks and told him the reason, that he put them on when his feet were in the state of ritual purity, so that he be reassured and know the ruling.

When a man was to set out on a journey, ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would say to him: "Draw near to me so that I may bid you farewell as the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to bid us farewell. He would say: 'I entrust Allah with your religion, your trusts, and your last deeds.'"
‘Abdullāh ibn Yazīd al-Khatmi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would bid farewell to the departing army by saying: "I entrust Allah with your religion, your trusts, and your last deeds."
Narrated by Ibn Majah - Narrated by At-Termedhy - An-Nasaa’i - Narrated by Abu Daoud - Narrated by AhmadGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say to any man who wished to travel: "Come close to me so that I may bid you farewell as the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would bid us farewell." This demonstrates how committed the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) adhered to the Messenger’s Sunnah. In other narrations, it is stated that he would take the traveler's hand and not leave it. He would do this out of modesty and as an expression of ultimate love and mercy.
He would ask Allah to protect his religion and his trusts, which is everything that a person is entrusted with including both people's trusts and Allah's rights.
A traveler is always communicating and dealing with people, and hence the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated Allah, the Almighty, to protect his trusts and to make him avoid betraying the trusts of people. Thus, when he returns to his family, he would have avoided everything that could harm him in the future, in his religion, and in this world.
The Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would use this supplication when bidding his Companions farewell whenever they would leave to fight in the cause of Allah. He used to bid them farewell with this supplication so that they would succeed and emerge triumphant over their enemies while also observing the obligations of Allah during the battle.

Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer voluntary prayer on the back of his riding beast (camel), whatever direction it went. He would nod his head. Ibn ‘Umar would do so as well.
Another version reads: "He used to perform Witr on top of his camel."
A version by Muslim adds: "But he did not offer the obligatory prayer on top of it."
A version by Al-Bukhāri states: "…except for the obligatory prayers."
Narrated by Bukhari - Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the voluntary prayer only on the back of his riding beast, regardless of its direction. He would gesture with his head instead of bowing and prostration and did not bother to dismount to bow, prostrate himself, or face the Qiblah. This applies equally to the voluntary prayers, the regular Sunnah prayers, and other prayers fir specific reasons. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) however, did not do so when performing the obligatory prayers. In addition, he would offer the Witr prayer on the back of his camel.

Agreed uponGradeAuthentic
Explanation
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) clarified that it is unlawful for a Muslim woman to travel a distance of one night unless accompanied by a man from her Mahrams.
Benefits
- Ibn Hajar said: The impermissibility of a woman traveling without a Mahram, and this is a consensus except in the cases of Hajj and ‘Umrah, and leaving the land of Shirk (polytheism). However, some scholars have made this a condition for performing Hajj.
- The perfection of the Islamic Shariah and its deep concern for safeguarding and protecting women.
- Belief in Allah and the Last Day requires submission to the legislation of Allah and abidance by His limits.
- A woman's Mahram is her husband or someone who is permanently prohibited from marrying her due to blood relations, breastfeeding, or marriage ties. He must be a Muslim, adult, sane, trustworthy, and reliable, as the purpose of a Mahram is to protect and safeguard the woman and take care of her needs.
- Al-Bayhaqi said regarding the narrations related to the duration of travel for which a woman is not allowed to travel except with a Mahram: In conclusion, anything that is called travel, a woman is prohibited from undertaking it without a husband or a Mahram, whether it is for three days, two days, one day, a Barīd (a specific distance measurement), or anything else, due to the general indication of the narration of Ibn ‘Abbās, which is the last of Muslim's previous narrations: "A woman must not travel except with a Mahram." This applies to all that is called travel. End quote. This Hadīth was based on the condition of the questioner and his country.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Travel is a portion of torment. It prevents you from eating, drinking and sleeping. When one of you has achieved his purpose from his journey, let him hasten back to his family."
Narrated by Bukhari & MuslimGradeAuthentic hadith
Explanation
"Travel is a portion of torment”, i.e. part of it. 'Torment' here is the pain resulting from hardship involved in riding, walking and leaving behind one's habitual lifestyle. "It prevents you from sleeping, eating and drinking", i.e. travel hinders one from enjoying the pleasures of life perfectly due to the hardship, toil, suffering from heat and cold, fear, separation from family and friends, and rough living conditions. That is because a traveler is usually worried, does not eat or drink his normal food and drink as in ordinary times, and likewise is the sleep. So, if this is the case, then one should return to comfortable life, to his family and country, so that he could look after his family, discipline them and so on.
