Accessibility
Sabīl is meant for everyone who wants to use it. This page says what is in place for that, what is not yet, and how to tell us when something stands in your way.
What we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Sabīl has not yet had an independent accessibility audit, so we do not claim that it meets them in full. What is listed below is checked by the app’s own automated tests.
What is in place
- Language and direction. Every page says which language it is in and which way it reads, and Arabic is marked as Arabic inside every language, so that a screen reader can read each in its own voice.
- Text size. “Text size” in Settings makes what you read larger: the library, the Qur’ān and the ḥadīth. Zooming in your browser enlarges everything else.
- Contrast. Text has a contrast of at least 4.5 to 1 against what is behind it. Setting “Contrast” to “High” in Settings raises it to at least 7 to 1, and Sabīl does the same by itself when your device asks for more contrast.
- Appearance. Light, dark and sepia, under “Appearance” in Settings.
- Keyboard. Links, buttons and fields are the browser’s own, so each can be reached with the Tab key and used from the keyboard. Every page begins with “Skip to content”, and the control you are on is outlined.
- Touch. Under a finger, anything that can be pressed answers over an area at least 44 pixels wide and 44 pixels high.
- Motion. When your device asks for less motion, animations are switched off. Nothing flashes, and Sabīl plays no sound or video.
- The qibla. Its direction is given in degrees as well as on the compass.
What is not done yet
- Sabīl has not yet been tested screen by screen with a screen reader. If yours reads a page badly, tell us.
- The print files are made for paper and have not been checked with a screen reader. The same texts are in the app’s reading pages.
- The pages shown for an address that does not exist, and when you are offline, need JavaScript.
- In a language marked “Library in draft”, the app’s own screens are in that language and the library is read in a draft translation, made by machine and not yet reviewed, with the English one tap away.
Tell us about a barrier
If something in Sabīl stands in your way, we would like to know. The mailbox for Sabīl is being set up, and the Contact page will give the address as soon as someone is reading it. When it does, tell us which page, what you were trying to do, and what you use to read the screen or to type.
This page was last checked against the app on 3 October 2026.
